Work off the van

Photographed on site as each job wrapped up. Houses, garden rooms, refits and working units.

EV charge point mounted on a rendered wall with the cable coiled
Home charge point on a rendered elevation, the lead clipped in one straight run down to the duct.
Close view of a finished consumer unit with neatly dressed cabling
Finished board close up — tails, earths and neutrals all cut to length so the next fault can be traced without unpicking somebody else's work.
LED strip lighting hidden beneath a timber stair handrail
Strip lighting concealed under a stair handrail. You see the light on the treads, not the fitting.
Recessed downlights installed across a newly plastered open-plan ceiling
Downlights set out across an open-plan kitchen and living space. Positions marked and agreed on site before a single hole was cut, so the spacing works with the units rather than fighting them.
First fix wiring through floor joists with circuits marked on brickwork
First fix on a full renovation, every circuit chalked on the brickwork before cable was pulled.
Sockets, light and a small consumer unit fitted in a garden room
Garden room supply — its own small consumer unit, sockets and a light, fed on armoured cable.
Wall lights and mirrors being installed in a washroom refurbishment
Mirror lighting and extract for a washroom refit, wired while the fit-out carried on around us.
Warm LED plinth lighting washing across a kitchen floor
Plinth lighting run the length of a kitchen. Set far enough back that you get an even wash over the floor instead of a row of bright dots.
Infrared patio heater fixed to brickwork beneath an awning
Infrared heater and festoon over covered outdoor seating for a hospitality client.
Bollard lights lighting a block paved driveway at dusk
Bollards either side of a new driveway, run off one outdoor circuit and set to come on at dusk.
Replacement consumer unit with individual RCBOs and surge protection
Replacement consumer unit — a device per circuit, surge protection on the end, every way labelled.
LED batten lighting fitted across the ceiling of a commercial workshop
LED battens through a working unit, hung to clear the gantry crane and sheeted up so the trades below could keep going while we worked overhead.

Why us

Done properly, priced honestly

You ring, an electrician answers, you get told what's wrong and what it costs. That's it.

Local

Based in and around York

Everything from Georgian townhouses inside the bar walls to the newer estates out at Huntington and Copmanthorpe. Different wiring, different problems, and we've had our hands in most of them.

Fixed

One price, agreed first

You get the figure before anything starts. If something turns up behind the plaster we stop and talk about it. Nothing lands on the invoice that you haven't already said yes to.

Fast

Urgent jobs go to the front

Planned work can shuffle. Someone sat with no power or a board that keeps dropping out cannot, so those calls get moved up and you get a real time, not a vague window.

Proven

Tested and written down

Readings taken, every circuit labelled, and you're told what we found — including things we spotted that weren't part of the job you booked.

Careful

Dust sheets before drills

Chasing walls and lifting boards makes mess. We cover up first, clean up after, and the offcuts leave in our van rather than filling your bin.

Any Size

Small jobs still count

A single dead socket, a fan that's given up, one flickering downlight. We'll come out for half an hour's work and charge you for half an hour's work.

Around York

Looking for an electrician near you?

Where we work, and what people usually search for before they call.

Electrician Near Me

If you're searching for an electrician near you in York, you probably want someone who can actually get to you this week rather than a firm quoting from two counties away. We're local, so a call to Acomb, Heworth or Fulford is a short run out. Houses, rented properties and small commercial premises all covered.

Emergency Electrician York

Lost power completely, an RCD that drops the moment you push it up, a discoloured socket or a burnt smell near the fuse box. Ring it through, tell us what's happened, and we'll say straight away what to isolate and give you an honest arrival time. Terraced streets with awkward parking are no problem.

EV Charger Installer York

Home charge points across the York area — supply checked first, dedicated circuit run from the board, unit sited where the lead actually reaches the car. Village properties on longer supplies sometimes need a load assessment before you commit to a unit, and we'll say so rather than find out on install day.

Consumer Unit Upgrade York

Plenty of York housing still runs on rewireable fuses in an old plastic or wooden box with no RCD protection anywhere. A modern metal unit with a device per circuit means one faulty appliance trips one circuit rather than putting the whole house in the dark. We test what's already there before quoting.

FAQs

Questions we get asked

Do you cover emergency call-outs in York?

Yes. A total loss of power, a breaker that trips the second you reset it, a scorched socket or a burnt smell around the fuse box are all treated as urgent and moved to the front of the day. Ring 01904 911044, describe what's happening, and we'll tell you what to switch off while we're on the way.

What areas around York do you work in?

York and the villages around it — Acomb, Clifton, Heworth, Fulford, Bishopthorpe, Dringhouses, Holgate, Tang Hall, Rawcliffe, Haxby, Wigginton, Strensall, Huntington, Copmanthorpe, Poppleton, Dunnington, Elvington, Stamford Bridge, Escrick, Riccall, Easingwold and Tadcaster. Ring and ask if you're a bit further out.

Can you work on period and older properties?

Regularly. Older York housing tends to have wiring added in layers over several decades, sometimes with rubber or fabric-covered cable still buried in the fabric, and earthing arrangements that predate anything current. We test first so we know what's actually there, and we plan cable routes to keep the damage to original plaster and joinery down.

How much will the job cost?

That depends entirely on what it is — swapping a socket and rewiring a house aren't in the same conversation. Straightforward jobs we can price on the phone once you've described them; anything larger we come and look at first. Either way you get a fixed figure before work starts.

Can you install an EV charger if I park on the street?

Honestly, usually not in a way we'd be happy signing off. Trailing a lead across a public footpath creates a trip hazard and most councils won't allow it. If you've got a driveway, a hardstanding or even a shared yard with an agreement in place, we can almost always make it work — ring and describe the parking and we'll tell you straight.

What actually happens during an EICR?

We inspect and test the fixed wiring throughout the property — board, circuits, sockets, lighting, earthing and bonding — and produce a report saying whether it's satisfactory, with any problems coded by severity. We'll talk you through what each code means in plain English and price any remedial work separately so you can decide what to do.

Do I definitely need to upgrade my fuse box?

Not always. If you've got rewireable fuses, a plastic or wooden enclosure, or no RCD protection, it's usually worth doing. But a new board sitting on top of faulty circuits just hides the problem, so we test the existing installation first — occasionally the answer is that a board change isn't what you need, and we'll say so.

Will you help plan a lighting scheme?

Yes, and it's worth doing before the plasterer arrives rather than after. Downlight spacing, how many circuits you want to switch separately, warm or cool colour temperature, where dimmers make sense and where strip lighting will look better than spots — all much easier to sort at first fix.

Do you work for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. EICRs and landlord safety checks, plus remedial work, PAT testing and general maintenance across a portfolio. Tell us how many properties and where they are when you ring and we'll work out something sensible on scheduling.

How do I book you in?

Ring 01904 911044 and you'll speak to an electrician rather than a call centre. Or fill in the quick quote form at the top of this page or the enquiry form further down — both come straight to our inbox and we'll get back to confirm a time.
